Winter Skincare in Bangladesh: How to Keep Your Skin Soft When the Weather Turns Dry

Bangladeshi winters are short, but they're surprisingly hard on the skin. The air becomes dry, people take longer hot showers, and suddenly skin that was oily all summer feels tight, rough and flaky.

The trick is to switch your routine before the dryness becomes a problem. Here's how.

Why skin gets dry in winter

In winter, the air holds less moisture, so water evaporates from your skin more quickly. Add hot showers, which strip away natural oils, and the protective barrier of your skin weakens. That's when you see flakiness, itching, dullness and cracking.

1. Switch to a creamier cleanser

The foaming face wash that worked in summer may now be too drying. Swap to a cream or gel cleanser that leaves your skin feeling soft, not "squeaky clean."

2. Upgrade your moisturizer

Move from a light gel to a richer cream. Look for ingredients like shea butter, glycerin, aloe vera or natural oils. Apply it while your skin is still slightly damp to lock in moisture.

3. Keep showers warm, not hot

A steaming hot shower feels wonderful on a cold morning, but it's one of the biggest causes of winter dryness. Keep the water warm and the shower short, and moisturize your body within a few minutes of drying off.

4. Don't forget your lips

Lips have no oil glands, so they dry out fast.

  • Use a nourishing lip balm throughout the day and before bed

  • Avoid licking your lips — it makes dryness worse

  • Gently exfoliate once a week with a little honey and sugar

5. Give hands and feet extra care

Hands and heels often crack first in winter.

  • Apply hand cream after every wash

  • At night, apply a thick foot cream or a little coconut or mustard oil to your heels and wear cotton socks

  • Soak feet in warm water once a week, then gently scrub

6. Keep using sunscreen

Winter sun is softer, but it still affects your skin. Continue using sunscreen during the day, especially if you spend time outdoors.

7. Hydrate from the inside

It's easy to drink less water when it's cold. Keep a bottle nearby and enjoy seasonal fruits and vegetables — they're great for your overall health.

Bonus: a simple winter night routine

  1. Gentle cream cleanser

  2. Hydrating toner or rose water

  3. Rich moisturizer or a few drops of face oil

  4. Lip balm

  5. Foot cream and socks
